This last book in the Cold Equations series does not disappoint in this respect. All of the best stories in the Trek universe are not just about action they are stories that challenge us philosophically and mentally. What is different about this series is that while the changes are massive, it also feels more intimate. As with his last trilogy, this one changes the universe of Star Trek forever. David Mack’s grand new trilogy has come to its conclusion. But I really liked how they were so insistent on being loyal to Data and I find it comforting to know that Data has a method to contact his friends no matter where in the quadrant they may be.If Star Trek has taught us anything it is this: All good things must come to an end.

Surely they would have been able to detect it. But one thing that didn't make sense to me was how they could have been surprised to see him show up like that. I honestly thought the janitor that leaked the information was horribly written plot armor until I realized he was probably an android.Įnterprise going rogue - I guess Starfleet is used to Picard doing this and at the same time used to him being in the right. but until I see it I literally can't imagine an entire species accepting living under such conditions. I know ' different strokes for different folks' and that they're aliens and all. like in cannon episodes or films, I'd be laughing my ass off. Orion - Damn this is a backwards society. This is the first book I've read that mentioned the Typhon pact and I intend to eventually read the books that come before this one. You can't imagine how excited I was watching DS9's Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges just for the chance to see more insight on how the Romulan political system works. Typhon Pact - Oh how nice it is to get a glance into the world of the enterprises enemies. Points that kept me interested in this book were the Typhon Pact, exposure to Orion and Enterprise going rogue to respond to Data's destress call. This book, due to the scale of the action, I think this could be a 2 parter for TNG.

maybe this is my 5th or 6th David Mack book? I've enjoyed them all and while this one is a little bit lacking in terms of action, I generally feel that Mack's books would be better converted into a film than a TV episode. When I bought the book I was living in China, so I'd buy whatever literature I thought I'd be remotely interested in reading.Īnyhow, I thought this was amazing. I caught myself reading part 2 of a trilogy before the first novel.
